UNN 46th Convocation: Over 12,000 Conferred with Degrees, as Science Park and E-Learning for Launching Soon

ENUGU-The apex university in Nigeria, the University of Nigeria will soon launch a Science Park, as well as an on-line Distant Learning.
This revelation was contained in the address delivered by the Vice-Chancellor, 








University of Nigeria, Prof Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba at the 46th Convocation Ceremony of the university held recently at UNN.

Prof Benjamin Ozumba explained that the essence of these innovations were to enhance teaching and learning, as well as to position the number one university in Nigeria to conquer Africa.

Prof Ozumba further said that having retained the Webometrics ranking of universities in Nigeria which placed UNN as number one in Nigeria for the third consecutive time, the focus of his administration was to also conquer the African continent.

“The university is still ranked number one, and innovations have continued to be introduced in terms of curriculum and academic linkages.

“Our On-line Distant Learning Programme is ready and awaiting commission by the National Universities Commission, and our Science Park which will be the first in any Nigerian university is ready for launching”, he stated.

The amiable Vice-Chancellor of the most innovative university in Nigeria further said that the university was graduating an unprecedented number of deserving candidates who have worked very hard to change their status.

“We gladly present a total of 10, 425 First Degree Graduates made up of the following classification: 94 First Class Honours, 3,098 Second Class Upper Division, 5145 in the Lower Division, 1,653 in Third Class Honours, and 121 in the Pass category.

“We also present with joy a total of 93 students for the awards of Diplomas, while 314 will be awarded Certificates of the University of Nigeria”, he said.
While appreciating the members of the staff of the university for their doggedness towards achieving the dreams of the founding fathers of the university which is To Restore the Dignity of Man, Prof Ozumba mentioned that his administration had also completed some infrastructural projects.

They included an ultra-modern NLNG-UNN Engineering laboratory, the Austine Avuru Department of Geology Complex, and a good number of uncompleted buildings which were inherited from the previous administrations like the Social Sciences building, the Pharmaceutical Science building, the Faculty of Law and the UNESCO category 11 building have been completed and are in the process being commissioned.
Prof Ozumba, therefore, charged the graduants to endeavour to be a strong personality not a gullible pushover, especially as they have passed through the best university in Nigeria.

In his address, the Pro-Chancellor entreated the graduating students to go into the world, conquer and dominate, be bold and nevertheless kind and worthy ambassadors of their Alma mater.
He also advised them to keep in touch, and give back to their Alma mater whenever it was in their hands to do so.

Also, the Chancellor of the foremost university in Nigeria, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, The Ooni of Ife has congratulated the graduands for the successful completion of their course of study and for attaining this significant milestone in their lives.

 “It is my belief that you all will be worthy ambassadors of the great UNN.
“Your real worth as individuals will depend on your character and the core values which the university holds in high esteem and which you have imbibed and will allow to bear on your daily life.
“These core values, among others are your integrity, discipline, hardwork, loyalty, commitment to excellence and exemplary leadership qualities”, he stated.

The 46th convocation ceremonies also admitted candidates into higher degrees, Post-Graduate Diploma Degrees, Honorary Doctorate Degrees to two personalities who deserved them, as well as the award of Professor Emeritus to some professors who have retired and are still in the service of the university.
Earlier in the convocation week, the prestigious university which is built on soft green hills, the University of Nigeria has awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity [DD] to the Overseer Worldwide of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, [RCCG], Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, in a first of its kind special Convocation Ceremony, held at the den.
